Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted per fess, above Argent a lion passant Gules, beneath chequered of 15 of Azure and Argent, ordered 3:5.
Meaning:
The arms are derived from the family arms of the Barons of Cornberg, a kin originated in Hesse, which had many estates in north eastern Hesse and northern Westphalia. The lion is symbolising the ancestry of the family from the Landgraves of Hesse. The chequered field is derived from a chessboard in the family arms of the Cornberg kin, which had the colours blue, red and silver.
The arms were approved on 16 July 1969 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Hannover.
