From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:
The arms were granted on November 23, 1973.The arms are mainly based on the old arms of the Sonthofen county, in which the flower is replaced by the blue bar. The blue bar is derived from the blue-red division of the arms of the Kempten county.
Literature: Linder and Olzog 1996.
