Overview

I am presenting below updates on the parties - several of them have disappeared. I would suggest to present first the parties still active or with historical significance. Updated information on the parties and their current status is available at the Electoral Supreme Court website.
Most flags presented on this page are based on information retrieved from the Electoral Supreme Court website. However, the website shows the emblems and not the flags. A warning notice should be added at the top of the page, stating that, unless explicitly stated, the flags are unconfirmed.

Movimiento Avance Santo Domingo

image by Ivan Sache, 08 August 2013

Movimiento Avance Santo Domingo (MAS) was founded on 31 October 2008 and registered (Santo Domingo, Heredia) by Resolution No. 71 of 30 July 2009.
According to Article 2 of the party's Statutes, "The emblem of the party (MAS) is a rectangle of three parts in height, two parts being yellow and one part cyan. The technical specifications are: yellow 100% and cyan 100%. On the yellow stripe is placed the official logotype, made of the party's acronym - MAS - in lower case letters, inscribed on a white disk whose background reproduces the colors of the party's emblem in the same proportion as described above. [Amended by Resolution No. 99 of 31 July 2010]. Yellow symbolizes the Santo Domingo morning, while cyan symbolizes the sea, where rest the remains of Félix Arcadio Montero, the party's inspirer. [Amended by Resolution No. 30, 2012]."
Article 8 of the Statutes presents Félix Arcadio Montero as "a noted academician, jurisconsult and statesman, whose spirit of solidarity and social justice triggered the foundation in the 19th century of Partido Independiente Demócrata as a grass-rooted political alternative to nepotism and lack of interest for people from traditional parties, which defended only the interests of the local coffee-growing oligarchy. This party was, undoubtedly, the precursor of political struggle and of the organisation of the national working class. Moreover, with a visionary political program, the party advocated for the decentralization of civil administration, for the acknowledgement of municipal government as the institution in charge of the development of the country's community, for direct election and for women's vote."

Félix Arcadio Montero Monge (1850-1897) was born in Santo Domingo. Expelled from the country, he died at sea; his body was immersed on 5 June 1897 off the coast of Nicaragua, close to the entrance of Fonseca Gulf.
