Cuitiva is a municipality in the Colombian Department of Boyacá, part of the the subregion of the Sugamuxi Province. It was founded by Juan de San Martin on 19 January 1550.
The flag of Cuitiva is horizontally divided blue-white-green and is charged with yellow sun.

"The flag is divided in three parts:
- First stripe: Blue, symbolizing Lake Tota and our skies;
- Second stripe: White, symbolizing purity, ethics and peace;
- Third stripe: Green, symbolizing the resources provided by our cultivated lands, suitable for agriculture and cattle breeding. The sun, placed in the middle of the flag, represents the human touch of the people."
Lake Tota (area, 56.2 sq. km; maximal depth, 67.40 m; average water temperature, 12 °C) is a mountain lake located 3,015 m asl. It is the third biggest lake by its area in South America and the biggest in Colombia and a main source of water for the country. Lake Tota is a tourist hot spot in the Department of Boyacá, famous for its white sand beach (Playa Blanca, lit., White Beach) and fish, especially the rainbow truit. Local legends mention a black fish with an oxen head; bigger than a whale, it is considered by the Indians as a representation of the devil. There is also a giant cayman, whose teeth are made of solid gold.
