Description of the flag

The flag of the Town of Bow Island (population: 1868 ) features the community’s mascot, Mr. Pinto Bean in full western attire complete with a cowboy hat, scarf, and gun holster strapped to his waist. An 18 foot high statue of Mr. Pinto Bean has been erected in the town. The agricultural production of dry edible beans and sunflower seeds are major economic activities in this region located about 320 km south of Calgary. The oil patch is also important and is represented on the flag by an oil derrick. This part of Alberta is subjected to frequent drought growing conditions. As a result, it was the first region in Canada to deploy an automated linear sprinkler system which attracts visitors from all over the world. A portion of the water irrigation system is depicted on the town’s flag.
