The Municipality of Cordoba is the capital of the samenamed province, and is
located in the Department of Capital. Its flag was officially approved by the
Intendente in November 23rd, 2023.
Mayor Martín Llaryora signed the
promulgation of the ordinance that determines the entry into force of the
official flag of the city of Córdoba, instituted last Thursday, November 23, by
the Deliberative Council.
Llaryora was accompanied by the creator of the
insignia, Agustín Luján Díaz, winner of the public contest "The Entire City in a
Flag", whose draft ordinance was signed by the mayor on July 19, 2022.
Its creation arises from the social and symbolic importance of having an
insignia and the importance of possessing symbols that reflect the history,
identity and culture of the people of Córdoba.
The new municipal emblem
displays horizontal stripes in red, white and yellow, with a Jesuit sun in the
center, the same one used in the founding of Córdoba.
Each color carries
with it meanings that express the being of the city. Red symbolizes the courage,
strength and potential of the people of Córdoba, in addition to referring to the
communities of Indigenous peoples that inhabited this land. White represents
coexistence in harmony and the position of the city, as a geographic and
strategic center. Finally, the color yellow expresses the joy, energy and
vivacity of the people of Córdoba.
In turn, the Jesuit sun found in the
central stripe adds an additional layer of symbolism, honoring the political,
social, cultural, educational and religious importance of that congregation in
the history of Córdoba.
The insignia will become part of the set of flags
that usually fly in the capital, along with that of the province and the
national flag.
