St. Louis County Executive Sam Page unveiled the county’s new flag during today’s State of the County at UMSL.
The flag’s design is described by the county as a modern interpretation of the iconic fleur-de-lis. The county says the symbol points boldly forward, signifying a commitment to progress and opportunity as it charts its future.
The colors displayed also pay homage to St. Louis’ history, according to the county.
Red reflects the vibrant transformation underway in St. Louis County, while blue represents natural waterways and landscapes that define our region, which symbolizes growth, sustainability, and connection. White symbolizes unity and hope as we come together to build a brighter St. Louis County.

It was designed by José Garza and Hayveyah McGowan, artists in residency with the Kranzberg Arts Foundation. The foundation, along with St. Louis County, hosted workshops to get community feedback. The county says common themes heard from residents were that they wanted to see something that incorporates nature and unity while being contemporary, timeless and pointing to the future.

The St. Louis city flag is occasionally flown in St. Louis County, although it has no legal status there. St. Louis City seceded from St. Louis County in 1876 and is now considered a separate Missouri county. There is at the moment, extremely modest sentiment here for rejoining the two in some fashion. This flag may possibly become a regional symbol in the future.

Here on WorthPoint is an old flag of the St. Louis County, Missouri Department of Parks & Recreation. I am not aware of it being used today by the department, but I doubt it.
