The new flag of the City of Simi Valley, California, ended up not being any of the proposals, but incorporating the two-hill design with a sunrise on a white field, with blue bands across top and bottom, and the name arched over the sun.

According to Ordinance 1245, proposed on August 17, 2015, approved August 31, and effective October 1:
"The City flag depicts a sunrise above the two (2) hill-valley design contained in the City logo, with blue stripes at the top and bottom of the flag and the words 'The City of Simi Valley California' overlaid. An official digital copy of the City flag is on file with the City Clerk."
Originally, the city proposed three designs for a city flag. However, the city decided on holding a city flag contest instead on October 10, 2011, then appointed a city flag design review committee. The city flag design contest received 60 entries. Seven designs were picked by the committee and presented to the council for consideration; afterwards, the city council picked three. The Chamber of Commerce, Council on Aging, Neighborhood Councils, and Youth Council were consulted at breakfast meetings between May 7 and May 18, totaling 175 votes. Of the finalists, the design by Eric Orozco, a graphic designer and Simi High School graduate, was chosen with 108 votes. It incorporates elements of the city logo with a setting sun. On June 4, 2012, Mayor Bob Huber made a motion to approve the flag, which was then accepted. Afterwards, the city decided to remove the incorporation date from the flag.
