Description of the flag

In April 2025, Hobson City, Alabama, raised its first official flag since being established in 1899. The flag was developed by the Hobson City Enhancement Committee. While presenting the flag, Mayor Alberta McCrory said that the community loves having a flag that symbolizes patriotism and unity. The flag’s main color is green, which, according to Mayor McCrory, represents unity, life, hope, and prosperity. She believes that the raising is a historical event because the flag includes a photograph of the mayor and five council members from when Hobson City became the first incorporated town in the state to be governed entirely by African-Americans. Mayor McCrory says the flag represents resilience, determination, and defiance, and shows, as in the words of Celie of The Color Purple, “we are still here” and still thriving and working to improve Hobson City.
