Anti-Semitic flag seen at NYU

Source: NYU student draws hate crime charges for flying flag with swastikas, Star of David over campus building - Jewish News

Caption: A "New York University" (NYU) student allegedly raised a flag somewhat mimicking the national flag of Israel by depicting a Star of David, two swastikas and the letters "NYU" over a university building during a May 13, 2026, commencement. The flag depicting the swastikas flew briefly over the roof of NYU's Steinhardt building, named for the major Jewish philanthropists Michael and Judy Steinhardt, during the school's commencement. Michael Steinhardt is a co-founder of "Birthright", the organization that underwrites free trips to Israel for young Jewish adults. NYU is located in the Manhattan borough of New York (city), NY.

Another photo reveals more details: https://nyunews.com/news/2026 (image). The shape in the center of the Shield of David is actually the top part of the NYU emblem - the flames of the torch.

This suggests that the field color might have actually been intended to be purple which, together with white, makes the NYU colors. Still the possible intention of using the inverted colors of the Israeli flag cannot be excluded, though.

Covid-19 flag

Anti-Semitic flag image located by William Garrison, 10 August 2022

This flag was located in Glendale, California (USA). In the article the caption read: "An anti-Semitism/anti-Israel/anti-Jew flag resembling the national flag of Israel found on a fence on "Caltrans" (California Dept. of Transportation) property in Glendale, a suburb of Los Angles, California (USA); c. 7 Jan 2021."

The original online "Jewish Journal Article" noted (in part): "American Jewish Committee - Los Angeles Regional Director, Richard S. Hirschhaut, said in a statement to the Journal, that "The grotesque display of an Israeli flag with the Star of David bastardized as blood-and-bones in Glendale [California] yesterday is an outrageous act of antisemitism. The visual of Israel as the source of the suffering caused by COVID is a modern-day equivalent of the age-old antisemitic blood-libel trope." The flag does appear to be professionally printed, and not a hand-drawn placard. The news-article refers to it as a "flag," and there are gromets on the "fly" side of the flag. Looking closely at the bottom of the flag, it appears that droplets of blood are dripping onto the bottom white stripe - demonstrating that this "flag" should be flown/shown in this horizontal position, and not rotated to be a mere vertical banner.
