The coat of arms was adopted in 1992, being designed by Bernardo Carlos Casas. During this time, the State asked the municipalities to adopt their own municipal coat of arms. The shield is divided into four sections diagonally. At the top, an image of the mountains as part of the scenery here and the original name, Tlaltenapa. To the left, three rows of agave growing, part of the economic development of the municipality. To the right, peanuts and a cob of corn in its husk for agriculture. At the bottom, a bow and arrow along with a sword representing the Spanish colonization. In the center, the sun is depicted.
