Coat of Arms

image from Facebook

I was informed that the history of the coat of arms is unknown, but can be found in local archives. It appears to have been designed in 1969. Held in ornamentation, the bottom reads a plaque that says "EN 1868 Por decreto de Don Benito Juárez, Calera fué declarado municipio libre siendo en esa fecha Gobernador del Edo. Don T. G. de la Cadená. 1868 - 1969." [In 1868 by decree of Benito Juárez, Calera was declared a free municipality, being in that year Governor of the State Trinidad García de la Cadena]. The border of the shield reads, at the top, CALERA VICTOR ROSALES, the full name (it is named after Victor Rosales). At the bottom, the years 1868 and 1968; the centenary of becoming a municipality. The upper-left section depicts a cattle and horse head combined, recognizing the cattle-raising industry. Above is a bighorn sheep for its fauna. To the upper-right, an image of a corn cob, three stalks of wheat together, and five beans together for agriculture. Both upper sections are divided by a column. Dividing the lower and upper halves is a band reading "ZAC", the state. In the lower section, two lime (cal) kilns are depicted, along with a man having his two cattle push a cart. This remembers the development of industry here and its name.
