Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murilo Lozano, being approved by the council on 12 July 1990.. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

Shield resolved in Spanish field, integrated by four sections, its description from left to right and top to bottom is: An esquipe or jug, tool to extract metal of the Mines, behind it a Christian cross representing Catholicism, tropical fruits of the ravine [avocado, orange, lemon, banana, papaya, guava, mango; at the bottom of the upper sections is a stream of water representing the Batopilas River], a horn with which the temptations of metals is made, representing the Mining wealth, the four [sic] section comprends the artisanry produced by the Tarahumara [blanket, violin, drum, guare (traditional pot), and jug]. The original name of this Municipality was San Pedro de Acanasaina, the same of which appears in a ribbon which crowns the shield, in the lateral borders appear poinsettia, flowers which are given in the ravines, in the lower part of the shield goes another ribbon with the name of the founding Mine Guadalupe.

At the bottom of the bordure is the year 1708, the year when Guadalupe Mine was founded. In each corner of the bordure is a sun. Two oak branches on the right and left sides with a flower represent the flora of the region. At the top of the bordure, it reads “BATOPILAS CHIHUAHUA”, with 08 to the left for the state and 08 to the right for the municipality; these are codes used by INEGI for statistical purposes.
