Overview

Csökmõ is a large village in Berettyóújfalu district of Hajdú-Bihar county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.
The oldest written evidence of the existence of the village is the Várad Regestrum, according to which in 1219 a defendant from Csökmõ was summoned to the ecclesiastical court that judged according to the red-hot iron test. The village was destroyed during the Tatar invasion and was resettled about forty years later. The original inhabitants of this region and the village were Slavs in addition to the Avars, but Goths, Huns, Gepids, Romans, Bulgarians, and Khazars alternated or tolerated each other here, upset by perpetual wars. Moreover, the conquerors even found Székelys and Vlachs, until finally the parliament of 1279 designated the banks of the Körös, including Csökmõ, as a settlement place for the Cumans.
In 1405, King Sigismund donated it to the Maróthy family. The epidemic raging in the years 1709-1711 almost wiped out the population. At that time, there were only permanent residents in places protected from the swamps. In the final report of the census held in 1715, the resettled villages, including Csökmö, are called “new plantations”.
From the early 1700s, Csökmõ belonged to Oradea as part of the Trans-Tiszántúli District, and later the Oradea District. Between 1867 and 1918, it was part of Bihar County, also with Oradea as its seat, when Bihar was the largest county in Hungary. In 1920, most of the county was annexed to Romania. The smaller half of Bihar County remained in Hungary, and Csökmõ also belonged to this.

The Flag

The flag of the settlement is light blue with its coat of rms placed in the center of the flag. Ratio is 2:3.
The flag of municipality was adopted by a Local Government Decree, but I haven’t found it.

Coat of Arms

The coat of arms is a red shield with a golden border. In the upper part of the shield field is a brown castle wall with two silver towers, above which is a silver eagle with outstretched wings, looking to the right, and above the eagle is a golden five-pointed crown. In the shield field, next to the towers, on the outside, there is a golden ear of wheat.
