Dombegyház is a large village in Mezőkovácsháza district of Békés County, in the Southern Great Plain region of south-east Hungary, located in the southeastern part of the county.
The old Dombegyház was located a little further north than today's Dombegyház and was also larger in area. The village was founded in the 15th century.
The Ottoman Sultan Suleiman I had been ravaging Hungary since 1522, and in 1529 Dombegyház also came under attack, and the Turks destroyed the village.
The residents returned, but since the village had disappeared, they went elsewhere. After that, the village belonged to a landowner, and only he and his family lived there.
The village was founded again in 1817 and still exists today. The new Dombegyház was founded a little further south and smaller than the old one.
The old Dombegyház is now home to the villages of Kisdombegyház and Magyardombegyház.

The coat of arms is a shield divided vertically, blue and red, framed with gold. On a green hill in a blue field, a white church with a silver roof stands in profile,
the tower is topped with a golden cross, which refers to the name of Dombegyház. The name of the settlement can be traced back to the hill and hills,
which were once characteristic of these lands and the monastery, because at the beginning of the 16th century it was one of the most significant monasteries in the area.
On a red field, there are three golden, black-veined tobacco leaves, their lower tips joined together with silver tobacco stems,
which refers to the hard work of the first inhabitants of the modern village, the establishment of tobacco gardens.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Local Government Decree.
