Saint-Cyprien (2,431 inhabitants, 728 ha) is a commune in the Loire department.

Origins of the village:
The Loire, in a very distant time, had a very different bed from the current one. It was less deep and very wide, forming a sort of lake that was crossed by boat. According to tradition, on the edge of this "lake" there was, in the 9th century, a religious community. Saint-Cyprien takes its name from the Greek Thascius Cyprianus, bishop of Carthage, who became a Christian martyr at the age of 40 and was executed in Curubis in 258 under the emperor Valerian. Today, in the church, there are relics (human remains or touched objects) enshrined which, according to legend, are relics of this patron saint.
