The commune of Muralto has taken over the arms of the Muralto family in 1882. These arms were found on a keystone of the family's house.

These are possibly canting arms, since muro alto means "high wall".

In 1881 the current municipality of Muralto, the formerly so-called "lower Orselina", separated from the Orselina commune. Thus the similarity between their emblems.
