In January 2024, C. Stewart McCleaf, Vice Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Washington Township, was interested in taking part in the “Parade of Township Flags” of the annual conference of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors. After the Board agreed, a contest was held with entries from the art classes of local schools, Supervisors, and other residents. From among five finalist entries, one was chosen as the official township flag and approved by the Board of Supervisors. The flag has an image of George Washington, to reflect the township’s name, and 1779, the year the township was founded. Above and below are the names of the township and the county. The flag was approved by the Board of Supervisors in September 2024 and shown in March 2025.
