Flag

The county of New Hanover in North Carolina is in the southeast part of the state. Like many parts of NC and SC, this county is dealing with the devastation and after effects of Hurricane Florence and their officials have been on TV to give updates on power, fatalities and such. At http://www.cleveland19.com/video/2018/09/14/hurricane-florence-update-nhc-emergency-management/ it shows a video of county officials in front of the US flag and the main county flag (seal on a blue background). Using the seal from https://www.nhcgov.com/wp-content/themes/nhcmain/images/nhc-seal.png I recreated the flag image.

New Hanover County Sheriff's Office

While watching an episode of the crime documentary series Forensic Files on HLN, there was a scene that included in the background the flag of the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina. The flag features a black field with a gold border. In the center of the field is the shoulder patch used by the Sheriff's Office. The khaki-colored arched trapezoid shape of the patch includes a six-pointed gold deputy star with a black banner bearing the word "SHERIFF" in gold letters. Below the banner, still overlaying the star, are the black silhouettes of a WWII-era North Carolina-class battleship above a modern-era Virginia-class attack submarine. In small, black, capital letters at the bottom of the patch are the words "HOME OF THE USS NORTH CAROLINA" in reference to the two silhouettes, representing the battleship USS North Carolina (BB-55) - currently a museum ship in New Hanover County - and the submarine USS North Carolina (SSN-777), which was commissioned in New Hanover County. Arched across the top of the patch are the words "NEW HANOVER COUNTY" in larger black letters. The patch is flanked on the black field by the gold numbers "17" and "39," representing the year that New Hanover County was formed, with the words "SHERIFF'S OFFICE" in gold capital letters above the patch and the words "New Hanover County" in gold letters below the patch.
