"Augusta is a city in Butler County, Kansas, United States, at the confluence of the Walnut and Whitewater Rivers. The population was 8,423 at the 2000 census.

History:
The confluence of the Whitewater River (Kansas) and the Walnut River was originally inhabited by Native Americans (primarily the Osage) who found the tableland ideal for hunting and fishing. In 1868 C.N. James settled in the area and built a log home to serve as a general store and trading post. He paid $40.00 for the land title from the U.S Land Office. He named the new settlement after his wife, Augusta. The James family original log cabin structure still stands at its original location.

The first train rolled into Augusta in 1881 to support the growth of livestock production and increased agriculture in the area. Shortly after the turn of the century two railroad companies would serve the town, the Santa Fe and the Frisco. The discovery of oil and natural gas in Butler County lead to further growth and became a major source of employment for many years." - from Wikipedia.

Description of the flag

The City of Augusta, Kansas has adopted a new flag:

Jessica Dunegan’s design was the winner.
Judges for the Augusta Flag Contest presented two final designs to the public last month and 331 people voted. Online votes numbered 270, while 61 people voted in person at the Augusta Public Library.
The public vote ended on Dec. 18, 2018. The flag design by Jessica Dunegan, received 74.5 percent of the vote, with the other 25.5 percent going to another design.
Johnna Smith, a member of the Augusta Arts Council board, stated, “Thank you to everyone who submitted designs, each one was truly remarkable.
Again, thank you for being a part of this event celebrating Augusta’s 150th Anniversary. May the city’s new flag be a reminder of our grand heritage, and a visual representation of our vibrant future for years to come.”

Augusta is 21 miles (34 km) apart from Wichita, which has a flag with a similar design. Wichita's flag is older, being designed in 1937. In any case even if the Augusta flag owes something to the Wichita one, I'd suspect that the design was also influenced by the fact the city is located at the confluence of two rivers.

I am the designer if the flag of Augusta, Kansas. It was the winner in a City-wide contest back in 1999. The gyronny field behind the seal was NOT influenced by the Wichita, Kansas flag, though Wichita is only 15 minutes from Augusta. The design of the Augusta flag was intended to portray the two rivers which have their confluence at Augusta and the one larger flow of the Walnut River leaving our humble town. I never knew at the time I drew the design of Augusta Flag contest winner that Wichita even HAD a flag!
