The Swedish National Police Academy is the educational center for the entire police force and is organized as a division of the Swedish National Police Board. The Academy has approximately 170 employees and just under 1000 students. Being a division of the National Police system, the Academy currently uses the same emblem as the rest of the police force.
In order to distinguish police students from regular police officers, the National herald in 2004 designed a new emblem for the police students. The new emblem was initially supposed to be used as an emblem for the National Police Academy, its flag as well as a new cap emblem for the Police students. However, since the Police Academy doesn't formally own the new emblem, it doesn't include a royal crown. The emblem has therefore only been introduced on the the police students' uniforms. The National herald admits that if the Academy in future adopts the new emblem as a symbol for the Academy, the emblem would probably also include a royal crown.
The emblem itself is interesting as it includes two crossed fasces,
which was a highly controversial matter when the current emblem of
the National Police was designed in the 1960s. At that time, the
fasces were placed behind the shield and tucked away in the
greenery - a compromise that evidently was not deemed necessary when
the new Academy emblem was designed in 2004, some 40 years later.
