It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field gyronny (meaning city rank) of yellow and green.

The coat of arms is Gules, before three wavy fesses Argent - Azure - Argent, a castle Or masoned Sable with port and windows Vert, issuant from the ventral tower, a gauntlet argent holding a club Or. Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "TORRES NOVAS".

Flag and arms were adopted and published in Diário da República: III Série on 7 August 1986. Torred Novas was made a city and seat of a municipality on 14 August 1985

Torres Novas municipality had 37 400 inhabitants in 1990, and it is divided in 10 communes, covering 270 km². It belongs to the Santarém District and to the old province of Ribatejo.
