It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain purple field.

Shield Argent two grape bunches Purple leafed Vert in fess, in chief an estoile Azure, issuant from flanches and from a base wavy Argent, charged with a barrulet wavy Azure, a mound of two coupeaux Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "VILA CORTÊS DA SERRA"
Meaning:
As usual for communes with "da Serra" (= "of the mountains") in their toponym, the coat of arms is partly canting with its mound. Additionally (and as in many local coats of arms in this region), the star stands for the mountain range Serra da Estrela (something like Star Mountains).

Vila Cortês da Serra is one of the ten communes of Gouveia Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes ; it had 202 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 11,06 km².
