Coat of arms

The arms are Sable a bunch of grapes Purpure leafed and trunked Or and two pomegranates Or seeded Gules. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DE CARREGAL DO SAL". Meaning:
"Carregal do sal" means "salt wharf" (a place where salt is loaded or off-loaded), refering to the local river harbour where rock salt was shipped - this toponimic symbolism is missing from the arms
António Martins-Tuválkin, 1 Aug 2007

Flag and coat of arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário do Governo : I Série in 1935.12.21.
