It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain green field.

The design was made by Ercilio Galhardo Neto in 1992. His draft was winner of a completion of 20 proposals. The original inscription of the orle had been simply "NESPEREIRA". The orle of his draft had been black and the mural crown had only three towers. The orle had become white (see left image above). Due to the elevation to a town the number of visible towers of the mural crown increased to four in 1997 (see right image above). Finally in in 2002 the scroll got the current inscription.

Shield Azure (light) with a throughout bridge Argent, topped by a pillory of the same, base Azure with wavelets Argent, orle Argent with four corn cobs proper in flanches ordered 2:2, two embowed wheat ears proper on base of the orle and a grape bunch Purpure leafed Vert on base point of the orle. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "VILA DE NESPEREIRA - CINFÃES".
Meaning:
The light blue colour stands for the sky. Bridge and pillory are local monuments, the bridge is a representation of Ponte da Balsa. The corn cobs are symbolising the economic base of the town and the four main cardinal directions (North, East, West, South). Agriculture is also represented by wheat and grape bunch. The blue base with wavelets is a representation of the Ardena River. In source (online article) the green flag is cut out, can however be seen in the preview of GOOGLE.

The design was not approved by Comissão de Heráldica da Associação dos Arqueólogos Portugueses (CHAAP) nor published in Diário da República but adopted by the commune in 1992 with a slight modification of the draft.

Nespereira is one of the 13 communes of Cinfães Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 1695 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 35,99 km².
