The village was established around 1581 as a Greek-Catholic parish. Until 1947 the majority population were Łemkos. The elevation of the commune varies from 440 m to 1080 m above sea level.
Arms and flag adopted on June 30, 2006 (resolution # XLII/270/06).
"Arms: on the red field a silver lamb hide.
Flag: a rectangle in the ratio 5:8 divided 1:2:1 into vertical bands.
Extreme, narrow bands are red and the middle, wide band is white and bears
the Arms of the commune in its center."
