On 8 September 1996, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the referendum for independent and sovereign Republic of Macedonia, a postage stamp (10 denar) was released. The stamp, designed by M. Dameski, shows the reverse of a bronze coin from the 6th century, used in Macedonia during the rule of the Byzantine emperor Justin II (565/6 - 577/8), and the current flag of Macedonia.

Stamp released on 15 March 1993
On 15 March 1993, a series of three stamps (10, 40 and 50 denar) was released, showing the national flag used from 11 August 1992 to 5 October 1995. This was the flag with the "Sun of Vergina" which caused a lot of trouble with Greece. The series was withdrawn on 6 October 1995 following the adoption of the current national flag.
