Mandera County is located in the extreme north east of
Kenya on the border with Ethiopia and
Somalia. The capital and largest town is Mandera.

The Kenya Gazette of 24 May 2021 published details of a new flag to be adopted by Mandera County. The flag has a red field with a and has a triangle at the hoist comprising three vertical stripes of black, red and green, all fimbriated in white. In the centre of the fly is a large red five-pointed star a with a white fimbration. This is surrounded by a circle of eight smaller white five-pointed stars.
The symbolism is explained as follows:
- The triangular insert on the left side of the flag symbolizes the Kenyan flag
and indicates commitment to the Kenyan dream and values.
- The nine stars in the centre of the flag symbolise the number of Mandera County as 009 in the County listings in the Schedule 1 of the
Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
- The red colour of the flag symbolises the
revolutionary change in governance of the county brought about by local
government devolution.

The previous flag comprised five horizontal stripes of green, fimbriated white,
yellow, fimbriated white and brown. In the centre was the county coat of
arms as shown below.
