The city emblem and the flag were adopted on May 15th 2006 by Notice No 160 and 161.
The white flag has a blue, a red , a yellow and a white four color flag emblem in the center which
is different from the city emblem of simlply stylized katakana カノヤ Kanoya.
The blue color stands for the southern country’s clear sky, the sea and Osumi Peninsula,
the red circle for a developing city with katakana city name in yellow inside.
