The city emblem was adopted on Nov 1st 1960 and
the flag was adopted on Dec 19th 2008 by Notice No 89.
The purple flag has a white city emblem in the center.
The city emblem is a stylized hiragana むつ Mutsu.
It represents a reconciliation and an exponential development.
The flag proportion is 2: 3.
The height of the emblem is 3/5 height of the flag.
