Local Council Mevasseret Ziyyon (biblical reference to Jeshaia
40,9) is situated 10 km west of Jerusalem
on the mountains (750m ASL) and near HaKastle, a famous
battle zone in the 1948 Independence War. The Local Council was
established in 1964 by uniting two temporary settlements of new
immigrants (Ma'oz Ziyyon A and B, est. early 1951) and Mevasseret
Yerushalayyim (est. 1956). 20,000 inh.
The flag has been reported as an emblem on various colours but
needs confirmation. The municipal emblem was published in the
official gazette (Rashumot), 'Publications Gazette'
section (Yalkut ha'Pirsumim), YP 1715, 22 April 1971.

However, without any information about the symbols.
Ma'oz Zion was established in 1951 in order to provide permanent
residents to the population of Ma'abarat HaKastel
temporary residence. Mevasseret Yerushalayyim (a.k.a Colonia) was
established in 1956 as agricultural settlement.
HaKastel is situated at the center of the Local Council
and got its name from the ruins of Crusaders castle on it summit.
It was a strategic point during the battle on the road to
Jerusalem, and a scene of bloody battles. Today, it is a national
monument. It also can be seen at the emblem, together with the
main road to Jerusalem (today Highway 1).
