It is located at the north end of the étang de Berre, adjacent to and northeast of the town of Istres.
Miramas grew in the 20th century around a major marshalling yard on the
Marseilles-Lyon railway line.
Two km away from the modern town of Miramas, located in the plain, the old village,
called Miramas le Vieux, has a magnificent panoramic view of the étang de Berre and the whole of the Crau plain.
The flag of Miramas (photo,

The logo, which was created by the Thalamus agency (website), "embodies a changing Miramas, a moving Miramas. It refers to a historic center, the start of the writing of a new town with a focus on the future. The colors of the logo are warm and dynamic to establish Miramas as a living town in Provence, in constant evolution, close to its inhabitants and

also reflect the positioning and strategic access of the town in the heart
of Provence."

An ealrier flag of Miramas, observed in 2000, was vertically divided yellow-blue, with the coat of arms in the center, the name "MIRAMAS" in sans serif letters above,
and the words "en Provence" on a red ribbon below.
The coat of arms of Miramas is "Azure a key or palewise ward upwards surrounded by seven plates three dexter and four sinister and a letter "M" argent dexter to the lozengy

The arms are shown in the Armorial Général (image), with the seven white bezants arranged in an orle around the key's upper part. Bresc's Armorial (1866) [bjs94] shows the present-day's design of the coat of arms.
