Overview

Adopted: 19 Febuary 1993. Ratio: 3:5. Vaivara is a rural municipality (vald) in Ida Virumaa County (maakond).
Dov Gutterman, 12 January 1999

Vaivara vald - Buckle is old Estonian jewelry. This refers to protection, permanence, continuity and togetherness.
Flag - Three points of triangle are sea (also blue color), sky (also silver color) and hope that Vaivara municipality becomes strong, wealthy and safe home to the locals (also buckle).
Erki Kurrikoff, 6 April 2001

The municipality's rectangular flag is divided into three fields by straight lines extending from the upper corners to the center of the bottom edge: the central field is white, and the lower fields are blue. In the center of the white field is a black brooch derived from the municipal coat of arms. The standard size of the flag is 96 x 160 cm. The meeting point of the triangles represents the sea, the sky, and the hope that the Municipality of Vaivara will become a strong, prosperous, and safe home for its people.

In 2017, a merger with the Municipality of Vaivara took place; the new Municipality of Narva-Jõesuu retained its old flag but adopted the coat of arms of the now-former Municipality of Vaivara.

The disc brooch is an archaeological find from the 4th century, discovered at Türsamäe (Vaivara Parish). In 2017, a merger with the Municipality of Vaivara took place; the new Municipality of Narva-Jõesuu retained its old flag but adopted the coat of arms of the now-former Municipality of Vaivara.
