Christlicher Verein Junger Menschen (CVJM)

CVJM is the German branch of YMCA (Young Men’s Christian Association). It is also a common umbrella organisation of mainly Protestant youth organisations. The target is, to help young people living a life according to the rules given by the Jesus Christ, especially the wretches among young men. Thus it is primarily a charity organisation. The seat is Kassel. Some 1400 organisations are current members. The organisation ran also many Christian sports clubs. In 2006 the sports branch renamed itself as CVJM Sport. The symbols remained the same. It was organised before in the Eichenkreuz (i.e. the oaken cross). Catholics were organise in DJK (Deutsche Jugendkraft). As far as I know, there had been two parallel organisations in the past: Christlicher Verein Junger Männer (young boys) and later also Christlicher Verein Junger Mädchen (young girls), both having the same abbreviation. Today the German organisation has 310,000 individual members, a staff of 68,000 volunteers and 1,400 local branches. The flag is white with the centred logo, an equilateral red voided red triangle, similar to the German traffic sign "give way", superimposed by a black bar with white inscription "CVJM".
