Irsee Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, two lions passant Argent in pale, the upper lion sinister facing.
Meaning:
The market town belonged to the Benedictine Order as an Imperial Abbey (German: Reichsstift) until 1803 and had no proper seals. In 1818 a bear as heraldic animal had been chosen arbitrarily, in order to allude to the name of Ursin Castle. The current pattern was proposed in 1836 and derived from the family arms of the Lords of Ramschwag. Their heirs had been the last reeves of the Benedictine Order. Not knowing the proper family arms of the Ronsberg kin, the pattern was presumably adopted as "arms of Count Heinrich of Ronsberg".
