Malchow Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a wall Or masoned Sable with two embowed sustainers, between the towers a heart Or in chief and a bird's head Argent in centre, holding an annulet Or with a gemstone Argent by his beak.
Meaning:
Lord Nikolaus I of Werle granted city rights in 1239. In 1298 a Penitents' Nunnery was transferred from Rö bel to Malchow. The arms are based on a city seal print either from 1366 (Schütt) or 1318 (Bensingk et alii). The current tinctures were introduced in 1994. Before the shield was white with red buildings, a red heart and a white bird's head, holding a golden annulet with a red gemstone.
Wall and towers are symbolising a fortified city. The heart might allude to the nunnery. The bird is interpreted as a seagull and symbolising fishery as an important business line in the past.
