Shield Azure a knight clad in armour Argent with plumes Gules upon his helm, mounted on a sinister facing horse salient of the same, bridled Or, the knight pushing a lance Or in bend into the throat of a sinister facing dragon reguardant Vert.
Meaning:
Rötha wa first mentioned in 1255. The existence of a moated castle is proven since 1350. In 1291 a market town developed, which was called a city first on 31 March 1292. Local seals are known since the 19th century. They already displayed St. George with the dragon, patron saint of the oldest church of the city.

Shield Or parted by a bend sinister wavy Azure, in dexter chief two grain ears Sable, in sinister base two cogwheels of the same, both pairs ordered per bend sinister.
Meaning:
The wavy blue line is a representation of the little Gösel River. The ears are representing the villages of Oelzschau and Plötzschau, which have a rural character. The wheels are representing the villages of Espenhain proper and Mölbis, which have an industrial character.
