A vertical flag, divided black-yellow. Adopted 23.07.1987, according to Dirk Schönberger's Administrative Divisions of the World website. See also the county website. Freudenstadt was one of the first German counties if not the first to adopt arms (as early as 1926). It was also the first in Baden-Württemberg to get a flag. Arms are taken from Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website, original source of arms is Stadler 1964.

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:
The arms were granted on 28 August 1926, and is thus one of the oldest arms of counties. The arms show a grouse, being a very common bird in the area, which is often hunted for. The grouse is not taken from any historical arms, nor from any arms of the major towns in the county. The colours are the colours of Württemberg.

The flag is also shown in Erich Dieter Linder, Die Flaggen deutscher Landkreise (Flags of German counties), in Der Flaggenkurier no. 2, 1996, pp. 4-10.
