The official name of the county of (German) Burgenland is "Burgenlandkreis". On 16 July 2007 the county parliament decided to change the name again to Burgenlandkreis coming, which became valid on 1 August 2007
The Burgenlandkreis is a county in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Its capital is Naumburg city. The county was established by merging the former counties of Burgenlandkreis (1994 - 2007)
and Weißenfels County as part of the administrative reform of 1 July 2007.

The embattled wall as part of a castle (German: Burg) is a canting element. The balls are interpreted as a stylised grapevine and thus representing viticulture, sword and key are attributes of St. Paul and St. Peter, patron saints of Naumburg Cathedral. The colours had been those of the Zeitz city. Flag and banner never had been approved officially but were in use between 1990 and 1994.
