San Jose didn't adopt a flag yet. The San Jose flag above is
not currently in use, it was used for short time some years ago
(dates unknown).

There is some information on San José Province, to be found
in the cantonal website.
A public contest for the flag of San José Province was prescribed by
Decree No. 34 of 9 November 1998 of the Municipal Council. However,
Decree No. 36 of 26 April 1999 requires the advice of the State
Prosecutor General about the procedure to be followed in the contest.
[There is no more detail given, but I understand that the contest was
launched by the Municipal Council of San José Canton, "on behalf" of
all cantons forming the province but without notifying them.
Accordingly, the contest for the San José flag was subsequently
organized at the canton's level.]
