![[Flag of Wangen bei Olten]](../images/c/ch-so-wangenbo.jpg)
Per pale Gules St Gallus nimbed holding a Book in dexter and a walking Staff in sinister all Argent and
of this Second a bear of the First rampant holding a trunk raguly.
Christopher Southworth
From reasons unknown to us, all consulted flag retailers except one depict the animal more like a wolf
than a bear
(example). According to Galliker (Schweizer Wappen und Fahnen,
vol. 7, 2004),
the emblem shows Saint Gall and his bear (Part of the Gallus traditions is the
legend of the wood-carrying bear).
The earliest proof of this emblem is a communal seal from 1819. It was confirmed by the communal council
on 21 March 1941.
