The symbol represents ingots of Aluminum. see: alcaninbc.com
The main industry of Kitimat is Aluminum processing. The ore is not found in BC (we have Gold, Silver, Oil, Coal... not bauxite), but places like Kitimat are ideal for the processing because of the availability of hydroelectric power. Kitimat is essentially a "company town" built around the Alcan (Aluminum company of Canada) plant. The colours of the flag are the colours of the company's logo. Like other one-industry towns, the town is trying to attract other businesses.
Kitimat is a "District", not a City, but uses the URL www.city.kitimat.bc.ca
It is in the North Coast area of BC, part of the Kitimat-Stikine Regional District.
Population 10400; area 32190 ha. Source: civicinfo.bc.ca
