The
yellow triangle (or) conveys the resources and confidence of municipal public
officials. The blue (azure) rectangle symbolizes heaven, justice, nobleness,
dignity, and perfection. The white (argent) rectangle is the symbol of peace,
friendship, purity, innocence, beauty, happiness, integrity, fairness, and
truth. The green (vert) rectangle means hope and faith, in addition to
representing careful agriculture and beautiful forests.
The coat of arms
of the municipality of Ouro Verde do Oeste was designed by heraldist and
vexillologist Reynaldo Valascki. The coat of arms conveys the meanings of a land
constructed by its people. The shield, in Samnite style, evokes the colonizing
race and the main builder of the nation. The yellow (or) crown classifies the
territory as a municipality. The escutcheon portraying Our Lady of the
Apparition, the town's patron saint, symbolizes people's faith and religious
spirit. The first settlers, from the beginning, built a chapel dedicated to Our
Lady of the Apparition. Currently, the municipality has a highly rich religious
culture and many religions that treat each other with the greatest respect.
The shield's field is divided into four parts. The first one features
rainforest, a cultivated area and a fallen log, thus reminding the beginning of
the work. The second quarter features a blackboard, a terrestrial globe, a book
and an inkwell with a pen, symbolizing education and culture. In the third
quarter, blue lines symbolize river São Francisco and other watercourses that
bathe and enrich the territory. Oxen symbolize the rich livestock and the
tractor, in the fourth quarter, highlights modern and mechanized agriculture.
Below, the Mercury helmet symbolizes commerce in the municipality and the green
of the countryside, rainforest.
The coffee, cotton, soybean, beans, wheat and
maize plants emphasize agriculture as the municipality's main source of income.
Agriculture maintains the economy in difficult times and has a strong
contribution to municipal income.
The red (gules) scroll bears the toponym “Ouro
Verde do Oeste” and, on the left, the date of creation of the municipality, "12
June 1989", and, on the right, its date of political emancipation, "1 January
1990".
