The flag of Wilson was designed by Sherry Gray and presented on July 25, 2013
by the Wilson Historical Society to the town council. Gray was the winner of a
city flag contest held by the Wilson Historical Society which started in October
2012 and ended in April 2013. It received 12 entries in total. This contest was
done because the Wilson Centennial was approaching in 2014. Gray received $1000,
a $250 savings bond, and a plaque for her design of the flag.
The flag
depicts a locomotive, oil derrick, and eagle. The first two were what the
historical society was looking for in a flag, as Wilson's history started as a
train depot and then quickly became an oil town. The eagle is the school's
mascot, while black and gold are the school's colors.
