The flag of Francesville was adopted in 1986 according to a clip from the Journal and Courier newspaper of Lafayette, Indiana. The flag was the winning design of a flag contest earlier in the year, with Mary Lee Gutwein's design getting first place, all though minor modifications were done before being accepted.

"The design carries an outline of a heart on the state of Indiana. Francesville has been calling itself the "Small Town With a Big Heart" for several years."
