The flag is green semy of dark green small inscriptions "FNK-P". In centre is a partial shield of the national arms, at fly replaced by a light green kicking karate fighter. At bottom is an inscription as follows: "KARATE" (1st line: light green, embowed and between two arches) "FEDERAÇÃO NACIONAL" (2nd line: white) "PORTUGAL" (3rd line: light green, smaller).
Karate was established in Portugal in 1962 within the frame work of Asian, mainly Japanese, martial arts, which were subsumed as Budo Sports. Karate then had been operated as a section of União Portuguesa de Budo (Portuguese Budo Union / UBU). It changed various times its name and status. The current status as an own federation was established in 1992. For further information click the history page.
