Meaning:
This toponym is, in its singular form ("cótimo"), an unusual surname, recorded among Portuguese nobility since the 16th century and likely sharing an origin
with the Coëtmen lineage of Brittany, given their identical family arms — Gules nine annulets Argent. These family arms were not integrated in any way into the communal arms.

Cótimos is one of the 15 communes of Trancoso Municipality created by the merger during the 2013 changes. It had 188 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 13,48 km².
