Sabugal was one of the 17 communes of Sabugal Municipality affected by the 2013 changes. It had 1943 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 31,6 km².

Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, two chestnut twigs leaved Vert ordered per fess, each with three chestnuts Or filled Gules, in central chief a Greek cross Gules with 12 acorns Sable fruited Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank)and white scroll with inscription in black initials "ALDEIA DE SANTO ANTÓNIO".
Meaning:
The acorn cross is an attribute of St. Anthony, name giver of the commune.
