Meaning:
The cheese wheel is a canting element, referring to a legend about a stranger, finding a house in the area. Begging for food, the owner answered "Mal h? queijo!". (There is only bad cheese(?)).

Presentation of Malaqueijo

Malaqueijo Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Rio Maior Municipality; it had 438 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 5.8 km². The commune was established on 16 May 1984, when it was separated from São João da Ribeira commune. But there is evidence that the location was populated since the 16th century and had been then one of the most populated locations in the local uplands.
