Shield Argent with base wavy of Vert and Argent, charged with a sperm whale Azure, issuant from base a volcano Sable garnished Or, spitting flames Or fimbriated Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "CAPELO - HORTA".
Meaning:
The base wavy with green waves is symbolising the Atlantic Ocean. The volcano is a representation of the local Vulcão dos Capelinhos, also known in literature as Mistério dos Capelinhos. The whale (Portuguese: capelo) is a canting element and namegiver of the commune and is also referring to the local traditon of fishery and whaling.

Capelo Commune is one of the 13 communes of Horta Municipality; it had 486 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 25,9 km².
